*OLD BERRYVILLE

Old Berryville (aka Pioneer Park) Cemetery
Carroll County,
Arkansas

This cemetery was in use from 1844 to 1899, then abandoned. As many as 500 graves may have been here, many were unmarked and many stones were destroyed. Some marked graves were moved to the Odd Fellows Cemetery (now Berryville Memorial). About 1979, part of the cemetery became Pioneer Park. Only one grave can be definately identified today. Fourteen Civil War soldiers are known to have been buried here; although, the exact location of the graves is unknown.
Located behind the Senior Activity Center at 202 West Madison, one block west of the town square. With one exception, the known graves in this long abandoned cemetery were moved to Berryville Memorial Cemetery some time after 1911. There were many unmarked graves, some of slaves, that could not be moved.
