Calico Rock Progress, Calico Rock, Arkansas, January 15, 1943:

Funeral of Young Soldier Held Here Wednesday

The funeral of Farrell Talburt, whose sudden death occurred at Keesler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi, Friday morning, January 8th, while in the service of his country, was held at the Church of Christ in Calico Rock Wednesday morning at 10:30. The services were conducted by Elder T. H. Sherrill of Searcy, who delivered a touching discourse befitting the life and character of this fine young man who was held in universal esteem and whose sudden passing cast a pall of sorrow over the entire town and community.

Farrell suffered a heart attack Friday morning about 7:45 while he and other members of his company were taking exercise drill and expired a few minutes following his collapse, before reaching the infirmary. The body arrived here Sunday, accompanied by a sergeant escort from Keesler Field.

Interment at 11 o'clock a.m. was in Rose Lawn cemetery at this place. A large gathering of relatives and friends attended the services at the church and at the graveside.

Pall bearers were: Orville Cheney, Theo. Garner, Hale Garner, Paul Stoner, Jack Gillihan and Neill Brooks.

Raymond Farrell was the son of Mrs. Jo Ann Talburt and the late Lee Talburt. He was born at Creswell, Ark., December 14, 1909. The greater part of his life was spent in Calico Rock, where he completed high school. During recent years he was lo-buyer for a post company. He entered the Army last August and was assigned to the Army Air Corps branch at Keesler Field, where he was taking special training that was expected soon to entitle him to sergeant's rating. As in civilian life, he was thorough and painstaking in the performance of his duties, which with those sterling qualities of manhood he possessed, evoked works of commendation from his commanding officers.

Deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jo Ann Talburt, of Calico Rock; four brothers, Herman and Thomas Talburt of Calico Rock, Lucian Talburt of Portland, Oregon and three sisters, Miss Maxine Talburt of Pueblo, Colo., Mrs. Roy O. Jackson of Portland and Mrs. Mauverneen Bacherl of Mountain Home.
