Bryant was a member of the state Legislature for 22 years before retiring in 1984. He served 16 years in the House of Representatives and six years in the Senate.

He was a member of the Heritage United Methodist Church, life time resident of Van Buren and an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the medical corps in France. He was the recipient of five battlefield commendations.

He was a member of Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6 and Western Arkansas Consistory. A graduate of Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, he was a licensed embalmer and funeral director and former Crawford County Coroner. He was a conductor on the Missouri Pacific Railroad and state director for the United Transportation Union for 10 years with offices in Little Rock.
