W. Van Alexander, 66, of Bella Vista died October 27 at his home.

He was born November 12, 1917, at, Concordia, Kan.

He moved to Bella Vista in April, 1980, and was a retired Personnel Director of Social and Rehabilitation Services for the State of Kansas for 34 years. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity; a World War II veteran and a Lieutenant in the Air Force where he served as a glider pilot. He was a member of the Episcopal Church in Concordia.

Survivors include his wife, Vi Alexander of Bella Vista; three sons, Roger Alexander of Topeka, Kan., Ronald Alexander of Strong City, Kan., and Robert Alexander of Auburn, Kan.; one brother, J. Dean Alexander of Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Bengtson of Schenectady, N.Y. and Mrs. Richard Lowe of Ogden, Utah; and five grandchildren.

There will be no formal services. Cremation was at Benton County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Ambulance Fund.

Arrangements were under the direction of Callison-McKinney Funeral Home of Bentonville.

TOPEKA. Kan. — Vi G. Alexander, 92, Topeka, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011. VI was born on April 13, 1918, in York County, Neb., the daughter of Olen and Edna (Mehringer) Gillan.

She was raised in Concordia, Kan., attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Vi married W. Van Alexander on Nov. 8, 1942, in Wickenburg, Ariz., and after WW II, they moved to Topeka. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Charch and served on the board of deacons.

In 1980, they retired in Bella Vista, Ark. Vi lived for 22 years in Bella Vista, before returning to Topeka in December 2001.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister. Van also preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1984.

VI is survived by a sister, Lois Chandler, Tucson, Ariz.; three sons, Roger (Char), Topeka, Ron, Kansas City, Kan., and Robert (Laura), Wakarusa; also surviving are five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

There will be no formal services.
