Married Nov 27, 1964 to Carolyn Burnett

Prominent local businessman Owen Bullock, age 67, of Benton passed away on Thursday August 13, 2009. He was born November 27, 1941, in Los Angeles, California, to Owen C. "Pete" and Eglah Bullock. He lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Flagstaff, Arizona, throughout his youth and then attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Margaret Bullock. Owen was a resident of Saline County for 35 years.

He married the former Carolyn Burnett of Benton in 1964 and they moved about until settling back in Benton in 1974. Bullock worked for Ashby Funeral Home and was the first EMT in Saline County and served as a reserve deputy under three administrations. He later worked for Safeway Co. and then became Market Manager for Huckaby's Food Store. He went on to establish Bullock's Market in 1978, which was a dream fulfilled. His idea of a ‘Mom and Pop' grocery where customers were always met with a friendly smile became a reality and has been a success for over thirty years. Owen served as President of the Superstop Co-Op for a number of years as well as holding a seat on the Coulson Dealer Advisory Council. He also served on the Transportation Advisory Council for Metoplan and also served on the Board of Directors for the Single Parent Scholarship Fund and the Senior Adult Council on Ageing. He was the founding board of the Benton A&P Commission. Probably his greatest honor and privilege was his service to the county as Justice of the Peace for District 9 for over 15 years. As a Quorum Court member he chaired and served on many committees, one of which was the Bridge Committee. As chairman he was instrumental in replacing the old Ed Dodson Bridge, an accomplishment he was very proud of.

Owen is Survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Bullock and one son David Bullock, of Benton; sister, Linda Davidson, Phoenix, Arizona; host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Benton with a private burial at New Rosemont Cemetery by Ashby Funeral Home. Ministers will be Dr. Rick Grant and Rev. Darwin Stroud.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers, Honorary pallbearers will be current and former employees of Bullock's.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be to the Saline county Single Parent Scholarship Fund. (from Ashby Funeral Home online obituary)
