John Walter Rousey of Tuckerman died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003 in Newport. Mr. Rousey was born Aug. 9, 1910 in Swifton, the son of the late John Brock and Elizabeth (Rowlett) Rousey. He married Violet Emogene Louks on Nov. 30, 1939 in Dripping Springs. She preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 1991. Mr. Rousey was an electrician with Citizen Light and Power in Tuckerman for over 30 years, a member of the Tuckerman Service Club. He helped start the volunteer fire department and the ambulance service in Tuckerman, serving as fire chief for several years. He was a member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Tuckerman. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Rousey was preceded in death by one son, William Mason Rousey, one daughter, Zellamae Steele, one brother, D.L. Rousey and one sister, Ruby Blankenship. Mr. Rousey is survived by two daughters, Violet Chipman of Memphis and Beth Hopkins of Tuckerman; three sons, John Rousey of Houston, Texas, Tom Rousey of Fayetteville, and Andrew Rousey of Tuckerman; three sisters, Marie Booth of Walnut Ridge, Imogene Rousey of Brinkley, and Wanda Shands of Evening Shade; two brothers, Jack Rousey of Stockton, Calif., and Frank Rousey of Illinois. Eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Faith Assembly of God in Tuckerman. Rev. C.L. Burnside and Rev. David Decker will officiate. Burial will follow at Swifton cemetery. Visitation were Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Higginbotham Chapel.
