Born in Jackson County, Kentucky.
Silas studied medicine under a few physicians but he was also an herb Doctor. He learned some surgery skills while in the military. He practicing medicine with out a medical diploma.
Aside from his medical practice he also owned and operated a general store, a hotel and two or three rental houses.
His mother was Rebecca Griffith Stacey father was William Stacey.
He married his first wife Miss Matilda Abbott, daughter of William Abbott, of Sparta. They had eleven children: William, John, Sarah, George, Rebecca, Jasper, Newton, Hen ry, Silas Monroe, Matilda, and James. After his first wife died he married Betty Morgan Stacey. Who served as postmistress for the town of Marble City, then known as Wilcockson now know as Marble Falls.
He served as a Union soldier in Company H, Phelps Regiment, Missouri Volunteers Infrantry; also in Captain Chandler's Company of Missouri Home Guards, and in the 73rd Enrolled Missouri Militia.
There are only 2 known pictures of Dr. S. S. Stacey.
