Mr Sterling P. Thompson, a well know and highly respected citizen of Mount Pleasant and a former resident of Calico Rock, died at his home at 11 o’clock on Friday morning of last week, September 11th, 1925. He was a sufferer from cancer for several years and after a critical illness extending over a period of several months, his death did not come unexpected.
Mr Thompson was 58 years of age having been born in Izard County and with the exception of a few years he lived in Batesville and a few months in Texas, he had resided in this county. He was engaged at farming and merchandising at Mount Pleasant until he moved to Texas and after returning from Texas located at Calico Rock, being associated in business here with L. L. and L. E. Evans for a few years, until he moved back to Mount Pleasant. For the greater part of the past 15 years he has been employed on the road as salesman but illness forced him to give up his work some time ago.
Mr Thompson was well known in this and adjoining counties and was highly esteemed citizen. He was a high type of Christian gentleman, loved by all and his death is the source of deep sorrow and regret in the ranks of the many friends of deceased.
Mr Thompson is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mollie and two sons, Ross and Rudolph.
The remains were brought here Saturday and interment took place in the Calico Rock Cemetery Saturday, funeral services being conducted by Dr. Ellis, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Mount Pleasant, of which church the deceased was a member. -- Roselawn.
