Herbert Holland, 23 year old farmer living near Alabam, shot, Sunday morning, his 16 year old sweetheart, his brother and a rival suitor. The dead are Naomi Bailey, age 16, Clarence Holland, 35 and William Boatright, 21. The murderer was placed in the county jail at Berryville for safe keeping. He said, "If it had not been for whisky" he would not have fired the shots. The shooting took place at the home of Clarence Holland while the four and two other persons were eating breakfast. Herbert Holland, officers state, suddenly left the table and after seizing his brother's shot gun, shot him. Miss Bailey was struck by the second charge and Boatright the third. Following the shooting Holland went out soors and called a neighbor to notify the officers. Sheriff Weathers took the prisoner first to Huntsville and later to Berryville. Holland is said to have been engaged to Miss Bailey at one time but of late she had preferred the company of Boatright. Officers stated Herbert talked freely of the killing and was ready to pay the price for his revenge. The Hollands are a well known Madison county family as are the Boatrights. The triple funeral was held at Alabam cemetery Sunday afternoon.
