Jan 2, 1948 – Mrs Annie Berry Dies at Age of 89
Mrs Annie Berry, one of this section’s oldest and most highly respected characters, died at her home here Saturday morning at an early hour. She had been ill for only a few days. She was 89 years of age.
Mrs Berry was born in Georgia, but moved with her parents to Arkansas as a child and practically all of her life was spent in and near Calico Rock. She was a daughter of Isham and Elizabeth Matilda Jones Talley, pioneer residents of this section. She was married to George W. Berry in 1876. Mr Berry’s death occurred several years ago. Through her many years residence in this community she became intimately acquainted with a large circle of friends, all of whom held her in high esteem. She was a devout Christian and had been a member of the Church of Christ for many years.
Surviving are three sons, Sanford and Albert Berry of North Little Rock and Henry Berry of Calico Rock; three daughters, Mrs Melita Staggs, Mrs Rena Stubblefield and Mrs Loleta Killian of Calico Rock; 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services, attended by a large gathering of relatives and friends, were held at the Church of Christ, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Elder Frank Puckett officiating. Burial was in Rose Lawn Cemetery, under direction of the Roller Funeral Service.
Pall bearers were: J. O. Cheney, Elmer Estes, Newt Caple, Theo. Garner, A. D. Harris and J. M. Floyd.
