Roy J. Bowman
SPRINGDALE — Roy J. Bowman, 77, of Springdale died April 7, 2000.

He was born April 22, 1922, in McCloud, Okla., to George and Evayln Frakes Bowman.

He was a Marine veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater.

He served on the Satiation Army board and was a member of the Springdale Rotary where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a board member of the Rodeo of the Ozarks, and he was named marshal of the rodeo parade in 1968.

He was a founding member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and St. Gabriel Episcopal Church, both in Springdale.

He served as a member of the vestry in both churches.

He was the manager of KBRS radio in Springdale from 1952-1958 and general manager for KGNS TV and radio stations in Laredo, Texas from 1958-1965.

He founded Bowman and Associates in Springdale in 1968. In 1970, he acquired Rocket Advertising Co.

He was a real-estate appraiser and owned and operated B & A Appraisers in Springdale.

He served 14 years on the Springdale City Council, including a time when he chaired the finance committee.

He served on the Springdale Planning Commission from 1997 until February, and Feb. 22, 2000, was proclaimed by the city as Roy Bowman Day.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine E. Bowman, in 1996.

Survivccs include one son, Tal Bowman of Springdale; one daughter, Beverly Bowman of Springdale; one brother, Delphin Bowman of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Lena Rachel Swapp of Oceanside, Calif.; five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with the Rev. Lowell Howland officiating.

Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sandy Boone, Jim Ritter, Tommy Holland, Bill Harper, Charles McKinney, Ray Holiday and Ralph Triplett Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Turnbow, David Chapman, Gabe Fajardo, Neil Johnson, Don Harp and Howard Baird.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army Springdale Corps, 315 Holcomb St., Springdale, 72764 or St. Gabriel Episcopal Church-UEC, 1803 W. Emma Are., Springdale, 12762.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
