May 11, 1905 - January 16, 1974
Mrs. Clara D. Helmick, 68, of Miami, Fla., formerly of El Dorado, died Wednesday in Hialeah, Fla., following a brief illness. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Junior League of Miami. She was a past president of the Southern Medical Auxillary and was of the Methodist faith. She was born in El Dorado, May 11, 1905, and was the daughter of Henry C. and Jimmie Thompson Johnson. She was dormitory director for Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va. Survivors include two sons, John P. Helmick, Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.; Dr. David Helmick, Miami; one daughter, Mrs. Claire Hayes, Miami; and eight grandchildren. She also leaves two nephews, Joseph Colter, Jr., and Wallace H. Colter, both of Miami. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Young's Chapel with Rev. Alvin C. Murray officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's.
