"Uncle Doc" Wiseman Dies at Jefferson, Texas

Edmund R. Wiseman, familiarly known to everyone as "Uncle Doc" for many years a resident of Calico Rock, died Monday afternoon at Jefferson, Texas, where he had been employed the past year and a half.

His death was unexpected, as he was felling about as well as usual until about noon, Monday, when he suffered a chill. Complications arose, causing his death less than two hours later. The remains were forwarded to this place, arriving by rail Tuesday morning, in charge of Tommie Wiseman of Jefferson, nephew of the deceased.

The funeral was held from the McClure funeral parlor Wednesday at 2 p.m. with services at he Church of Christ conducted by Rev L. C. Craig of this place and Elder T. H. Sherrill of Searcy, who paid fitting tributes to the life and memory of this beloved citizen. A large gathering of friends and relatives attended the sad rites at the church and at the graveside. Interment was in Rose Lawn cemetery in Calico Rock.

Deceased, who was one of the best known citizens in this section, was born in this county, near Wiseman, February 28, 1864, and his early life was spent in that vicinity. He was a resident of Mammoth Spring for many years, where he was connected with mercantile firms for several years. He was married to Miss Mattie Culp of that place in 1891. His wife died in 1911. Mr. Wiseman moved to Calico Rock over 20 years ago. He was employed with State Revenue Department several months, going to Texas shortly after ending his service with the Revenue Department, to take a position with his nephew.

"Uncle Doc" was a man of excellent characteristics, a considerate friend and good citizen, ever ready to lend aid to those in need. His jovial turn and amiable spirit endeared him in the hearts of old and young alike. The loss of his associations will be keenly felt by him many friends.

Surviving are two sons, Earl R. Wiseman of New York City, former Revenue Commissioner for Arkansas and Charlie Wiseman of Melbourne; one daughter, Mrs, Theodore Garner and one brother, D. T. Wiseman of Calico Rock.
