Mrs. Nettie Leconia Bates, 77, Rt. 3, El Dorado, died Saturday at a local hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 25, 1891, in Norphlet, the daughter of Olga Holloway and H. M. Stocks. She was a life long resident of Union County and a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church. She was the widow of Henry Clyde Bates. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Joyce McGough, El Dorado, Mrs. B. E. Sinclair, El Dorado, Mrs. W. G. Heer, Jr., Jonesboro, Ark., Miss Peggy Bates, El Dorado; two sons, Elmer Bates, El Dorado, Fredy Bates, Patterson, La.; two sisters, Mrs. W. KR. Horne, El Dorado, Mrs. H. H. McGough, Smackover; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Clay Hale officiating, assisted by Rev. Clyde Duke. Interment will follow at the Philadelphia Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Mrs. Bates grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Grady Hill, Dr. G. D. Murphy, Sr., Ross Barnett, Clinton Willoughby, R. V. Alphin, Dwitt Sinclair and Bobby McGoogan. (El Dorado Times - March 10, 1969)
