Oscar Blankenship Passes Away
J. Oscar Blankenship, 85, of Calico Rock was born March 23, 1882 and departed this life June 9, 1967 at Huntsville, Ark.
Mr. Blankenship served his country in the Spanish American War. He was a charter member of the Wilson-Byler Post 7730 Veteran of Foreign Wars of the United States and was a life member of this post.
He contributed liberally to the VFW National Home of widows and orphans of deceased veterans. Mr. Blankenship was raised an orphan and lived in many orphan homes. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Calico Rock. He resided at Calico Rock for 34 years.
Survivors include a niece in Louisville, Kentucky. Funeral services were held Monday June 12, 1967 at the Calico Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. John Pyles. The VFW members served as pallbearers.
Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of the McCallum Funeral Home of Calico Rock.
