Star City~Robert E Lee Bates, 63, of Star City, died Wednesday at a nursing home here. He was a farmer. He had served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church near here. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Mittie May Mullikin Bates of Star City; four brothers, Herman Bates, Raymond Bates and George Bates, all of Star City and Ralph Bates of Norwich, Connecticut; and a sister, Mrs. Mabelle Kimbrell of Malvern. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Calvary Assembly of God Church by Reverend G. A. Stubbs. Burial will be in Leek Cemetery here by Griffin Funeral Home of Star City. Nephews will be pallbearers. Note: He was also son of late Jessie Gerome Bates. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen B. Lincoln Ledger 22 Mar 1979
