Mrs. Alva Calhoun, 84, of Star City, died Saturday, January 11, 1986 at the Gardner Nursing Home in Star City where she had made her home for several years.
She was a retired postmistress and homemaker.
She was born March 1, 1901 in Lincoln County to James and Mary Ellen McKeown. She was the widow of Travis Calhoun.
She was a member of Mount Zion Presbyterian Church near Star City.
Survivors include four sons, Harlan Calhoun of Little Rock, Shelby Calhoun of Star City, Travis Calhoun of Houston, Texas and Treavor Calhoun of Branscomb, California; eight daughters, Mrs. Mildred Millen and Mrs. Mary Lawson, both of Monticello, Mrs. Eleanor Lockert of Little Rock, Mrs. Ann Tucker of Pine Bluff and Mrs. Laverne Carter, Mrs. Joye Robertson, Mrs. Arnell Morgan and Mrs. Linda Sue Chambliss, all of Star City; a brother, Maurice McKeown of Monticello; a sister, Mrs. Orpha Sparks of Benton; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 13 at Stephenson Funeral Home of Monticello, with Brother Dale Gentry and her grandson, Brother James Travis Calhoun, officiating. Burial was in Campground Cemetery near Monticello.
Paulbearers were Kenny Lawson, Jerry Lawson, Lary Lawson, Danny Lawson, Steven Carter, Richard Tucker, Mack Calhoun, Robert Morgan, Ronald Morgan and John Calhoun, all grandsons of Mrs. Calhoun.
