Hale J. Moody, age 81, of Dolph, Arkansas died Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Mountain Home.
He was the son of W. R. and Maude (Russell) Moody and was born Monday, September 12, 1927 in Rodney. He attended Norfork School and furthered his education in the military. He married Billie Wayland on May 19, 1949 and they would have been married 60 years in May. He served 26 years in military service having served in the Air Force and the Army National Guard. He and his family lived in Goddard, Kansas for 22 years where he served as city councilman and was involved with church activities. Hale was also a 32nd degree Mason. In 1974, his family moved to Dolph where they became owners of Dolph Grocery and post office. He was very instrumental in obtaining black top for Sanders Lane and a leader in the formation of Brunner Hill Water Association and served as its first president. Hale was also employed by Beech, Cessna and Lear Aircrafts and retired from McDonald Douglas in Melbourne in September 1992. He was a devoted musician, singer, and an avid sportsman and sang in a gospel quartet for 25 years. He was a member of the Trimble Campground Church and served as Elder since 1975. He was a faithful leader in Christ, a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Billie of the home; two daughters, Gwenda Sample of Dolph and Paula Murphree and her husband Ronnie of St. James; a son, Jimmie Moody of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren: Jeremy, Joni, Elisha, Betsy, Caroline and Jake; five great-grandchildren: Zachary, Isaac, Gary, Bobby and Waylon; three sisters: Lillie Jones and her husband, Rudell of Tallahassee, Florida; Daisy Jones and her husband, Ed of Roland; and Rita Odell and her husband, Rick of Caulfield, Missouri; one brother, Orville Moody and his wife, Gerry of Bolivar, Missouri; two step-brothers, Don Rand and his wife, Joann of Rogersville, Missouri; and Dois Rand and his wife Barbara of Winfield, Missouri. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Bertha Moody; grandson, Jesse Moody; two brothers, Glendale and Roe; and one step-brother, Dale Rand.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trimble Campground Church in Dolph with Brother Jamey Cowgill and Reverend Jay Dockins officiating. Interment will follow in the Hand Cemetery near Jordan under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.
The family will receive friends and family Monday, November 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Calico Rock.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Whiteaker, Jed Cowgill, Ronnie Dockins, Dave Williams, Raymond Moody and Willie Whiteaker. Honorary pallbearers are Todd Sanders, Rayburn Adams, Dale Adams, Dick Conley, Howard Rand, Sandy Rand, Dois Rand, Rick Odell, Don Green, Lee Cowgill and Norman Lueck.
