ERECTED AND DEDICATED BY A GRATEFUL FRATERNITY TO THE MEMORY OF A GREAT BENEFACTOR-----THE GRAND LODGE I.O.O.F. OF ARK SACRED MEMORY OF BROTHER A.W.SHIREY MINTURN LODGE 115.257 The inscription goes on to tell of the many things that A.W. Shirey had participated in to help the community.
This is the bottom of the large monument used as a gravestone for A.W. Shirey.

I must tell you that I was so excited to see this image of Mr. Shirey. My grandmother's brother, Leo Robert, was 8 years old when he
and a friend left Mr.Shirey's store, then, moments later heard a gun shot. Mr. Shirey had been murdered. I am 54 years old, and I am
writing a story about my grandmother and my memorable trips to Minturn. Mr. Shirey's tall headstone could be seen from my Grandmother's kitchen window. I cannot express how grateful I am to have found his picture. Mr. Shirey has become a remembered soul in our
