Mrs. Winnie Broyles, 95, of Van Buren, formerly of Alma, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008. She taught music lessons in this area for over 60 years. Although most of her students took piano lessons, she also taught organ, violin, banjo, and guitar. She taught in several local schools including, Alma, Cedarville, Pleasant Hill, Mulberry, and Mountainburg. In the early 80s, she organized a local string and keyboard ensemble consisting of several violins, an accordion, piano, and numerous guitars. Her group traveled to local churches, nursing homes, and played for special events in the area. In 1989, she was recognized in the press for "Outstanding Citizen" and received the Governor's Award for Volunteerism to Senior Citizens in 1995. Well into her 90s, she continued to play the piano for various services where she resided at Hope's Creek Retirement Center. For many years she was an active member in the Maple Shade Church of the Nazarene, where she taught a Bible Class for Senior Citizens and was Missionary President for over 40 years.

She is survived by: three daughters, one son; one sister, and one brother. She leaves six grandchildren. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren, and hundreds of beloved music students.
