Youth Killed in Accident Near Here Monday Afternoon
Harold Moody, 14, met sudden death late Monday afternoon in an accident that occurred near his home, 3 miles north of town. He was crushed beneath the trunk of a tree which had been cut down by his grandfather, T. A. Drennan. The tree lodged in another tree, which Mr Drennan also chopped down, causing the body of the first and larger tree to bounce several feet away where Harold was standing. Mr. Drennan was unable to remove the tree from the victim's body until Mrs. Drennan arrived a short while after the accident and assisted him.
The tragedy occurred on the victim's fourteenth birthday.
Harold was the second son of Mrs. Alma Moody. He was a bright and industrious youth and was popular with everyone. His untimely death was a shock to the entire community.
He is survived by his mother; two brothers, Carl and Howard Moody and one sister, Dorothy Jean Moody; also his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Drennan and other relatives. His father, the late L. F. (Guff) Moody passed away three years ago.
Funeral services were conducted at the Staggs Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. C. Wilcox, pastor of the Methodist church of this place officiating.
