WYNNE -- Elmer Callahan, 79, of Wynne died Thursday, March 25, at Wynwood Nursing Center at Wynne. Born and raised at McCrory, he also lived in Memphis, where he served as captain on the fire department for 28 years. He was a member of the Union Avenue Baptist Church in Wynne and the Masonic Lodge in Memphis. Survivors include two sons, Elmer E. Callahan Jr. of Wynne and Barry Glen Callahan of Jonesboro; one daughter, Deborah June Poore of Arley, Ala.; three sisters, Emma Wampler of McCrory, Rovanna Hamilton of Kemp, Texas, and Betty Borth of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Elmer Callahan III of Wynne and Jessica Anne Tipton of Athens, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Milner Callahan; his parents; three sisters; and two brothers. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne, with Ray Dean Davis and Rhesa Davis officiating. Burial will be in Woodman Cemetery at McCrory. Pallbearers will be Patrick Hess, Paul Mixon, Andy Mooneyhan, Gary Pat Powers, Larry Smith and Bradley Wilson. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Union Avenue Baptist Church.
