BELLA VISTA — Harold Calvin Boone, 85, of Bella Vista, died Jan. 3, 2002, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born Oct. 4, 1916, in Oklahoma City to Philip and Pearl Mason Boone.
He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1942. He then worked in Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. He taught engineering at the University of Oklahoma. When he was drafted, he was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He received a commission to work in the Naval Research Lab in Washington, where he worked until the end of the war.
He worked for the Texas Empire Pipeline Company of Tulsa from 1947 to 1951, when he started working for the Peoples Gas Co. of Chicago as a chief corrosion-control engineer.
He was a member of the Westmont (ILL.) Methodist Church for many years.
He moved to Bella Vista in 1982. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista and a member of the Methodist Men's Club. He helped organize the Bella Vista Crime Watch and received a 15-year service award.
He was an avid old-car enthusiast, a member of the Foothills of the Ozarks Antique Auto Club and a board member of Helping Hands in Bentonville.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Boone, and a sister, Phyllis Persley.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Watkins Boone, to whom he was married in April 1942; two sons, Roger Boone of Melbourne, Fla., and David Boone of King George, Va.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bella Vista First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive.
Burial will be at the Bella Vista Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Bella Vista Funeral Home at 2258 Forest Hills Blvd.
