Died May 1876
Lieutenant Joseph G. Richey fought in the Civil War for the Union (4th Tennessee Cavalry, USA). He was born about 1839 and lived in the area of Chattanooga, TN. After the war, he headed West and eventually came to live near his sister, Narcissa Richey Cooper at Limestone. His mother, Mary Ann, also lived there. The story is that Joe was shot and killed by unknown persons near his home at the spring on Limestone Creek. He was buried in Steel Creek cemetery, and his grave is unmarked unless by stones.
