Co B Cabell's Brigade
Civil War Confederate
June 21, 1830 - October 25, 1895
Jabus J. Mosley was born in South Carolina and came to Cleveland Co. Arkansas in 1850. Jabus was the third of eight children born to William and Mary. He owned 800 acres of which 125 acres were under cultivation.
In 1862, Jabus joined the Confederate Cavalry as a member of Cabell's Brigade and served until the close of the war. He fought in several battles including the battles of Pine Bluff, Wolf Creek, Poison Springs, Mark's Mill, and Jenkin's Ferry. He also accompanied Price and his raid in Missouri. Only once during all the battles was Jabus wounded.
He married Hepseba C. Brawner of Georgia, in Calhoun Co. on Dec. 8, 1852. Together they had children including T.G., L.A., and Samuel who all became farmers in Cleveland County. Jabus served for some time as the justice of the peace. After the early deaths of Samuel and Zellie, the children, Jesse Jabus, Alice, and Lucy, were raised by a relative Theodore Emmit Mosley and his wife Dora.
