Funeral services for James Calton Hopper, 89, pioneer settler of Baxter County, who died Friday at his home at Buford, were held Monday afternoon at the Fairview Church, with the Rev. G.B. Ketter officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, with the Roller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hopper was born in Georgia and moved to Baxter County when he was 12 years old, and had lived in this county for the past 77 years. He was a farmer and merchant and was at one time post master at Buford. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Eatman of Gassville, Oscar of Albuquerque, NM, Vay of Long Beach, CA and Vin of Buford; seven daughters, Mrs. Florence Nelson of Winters, TX, Mrs. Helen Hudson of Seymour, MO, Mrs. Donna Jones, Mrs. Blanche McCarty, Mrs. Lula Hayes, Mrs. Marie Sinor, Mrs. Goldie Lockhart, all of Peoria, IL; a step-daughter, Mrs. J. Edmond Wolfe of Manhattan, KS; 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
