ROGERS — Derwood Clovis Bowling, 85, of Rogers died July 25, 2004, at St Mary's Hospital in Rogers. He was born July 12, 1919, in Villegreen, Colo., to William Ronald and Alma Lorene Ham Bowling. He served in the 3rd Army, 80th Infantry Division, 217th Regiment from 1944 through 1946. The was a platoon sergeant and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster for his actions in combat. He moved to the area in 1980. He and his wife owned a Laundromat in Bentonville for several years. He was a member of the El Cajon Christian and Missionary Alliance and later joined the First Church of the Nazarene in Rogers.
Survivors include his wife, Marguerite Bowling of the home, to whom he was married Dec. 22, 1939; three sons, Daryl Bowling and wife Peggy of Gravette, Bruce Bowling and wife Patty of Alpine, Calif., and Douglas Bowling and wife Mena of Rogers; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Neva Lampe of La Jolla, Calif., Fairye Jackman of Rancho Bernardo, Calif,; one brother, Billy Bowling of El Cajon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Rogers with Alan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Rogers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.
