Vero V. Parnell, 63, a lifetime resident of the Salesville-Norfork area, died last Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock.
Mr. Parnell was born Oct 31, 1919, at Norfork. A US Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the American Defense Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Thearter with one Bronze Star and a Good Conduct Medal. He married Billie J. Watson Dec 18, 1948. Mr. Parnell was a retired bridge foreman for the Missoui-Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Norfork Church of Christ, Adams Masonic Lodge 164 of Norfork and the Norfork Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Franklin Parnell and Maude Hager Parnell and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Kenneth Parnell of Gassville and John Parnell of Salesville; two daughters, Patsy Walker of Mt. Home and Judy Parnell of the home; one brother, Joe Lynn Parnell of Independence, MO ; two sisters, Bonnie Hughes and Mabel Finley, both of Salesville; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were Friday at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Don Pfalser officiating. Military honors were given by the Norfork VFW. Interment was in the Galatia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Hughes, Donald Harvey, Louis Qualls, Henry Horn, Virgil Wilbur and E.J. Weatherford. Honoray pallbearers were Lefty Harvey, Wayne Hager, Dobby Hrvey and Carl Parnell.
