ABERCROMBIE, George W. - With sincere regret we chronicle the death of George W. Abercrombie, who passed away at his home near Maysville Saturday Oct. 4 following several weeks of serious affliction. Until a few months ago Mr. Abercrombie was enjoying good health and conducting a progressive and successful stock farm. He was one of our foremost farmers and stockmen and leaves a host of friends. He was a special good friend of the News Herald for which he always had a good word. The funeral was conducted Sunday by Rev. W.O. Reed of Gravette at Coats Cemetery, Maysville, where interment took place. The sympathy of all is extended the bereaved family.

George W. Abercrombie was born near Decatur, Ark. March 14, 1856; died Oct. 4, 1918. In the spring of 1881 he was married to Martha Elnora Coats. Three children, two girls and a boy came to bless this union - Mrs. M.J. Mount of Maysville, Mrs. J.E. Willis of Chicago and Earl of Craig, Colo. In 1907 he was married a second time to Mrs. Tom Ingle of Los Angeles, Cal. This wife and his three children survive. Mr. Abercrombie spent his life on his stock farm near Maysville. Being blessed with health he found great joy in tilling the soil and getting close to nature. Wearing his accustomed smile he went about his work with a song on his lips. To him life was earnest, life was real and the grave not its goal. He was a member of the Presbyterian church 20 years and lived a true Christian life; a great friend to the poor and to every enterprise that stood for upbuilding the community or country at large. On the 28th of May he was taken sick from nephritis and for four months no soldier on the battle front ever put up a harder fight but death claimed him in spite of all that could be done. A host of friends were at the Coats school house where the funeral was conducted by Rev. A.P. Reed of Gravette. The body was laid to rest in the Coats cemetery.
