John Howard Oldham, 56, of Old Joe died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Calico Rock.
Born May 29, 1947, at Kansas City, MO, he was the son of Hugh Overton Oldham II and Hilda Rose Black. He was a self-employed writer and artist, served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the American Legion Post in Almeda, NM, for 25 years.
Survivors included his wife, Terry Oldham; a son, John Tirey of Old Joe; a daughter, Julia Lawton of Old Joe; a brother, Hugh Overton Oldham III of Old Joe; and a grandchild, Kyra Ashton Nugent.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Julia Worthington Oldham; and grandmother, Willie Dwelle.
The funeral was at 2PM Sunday at Galatia Church with Wayne Wood officiating. Burial was in Galatia Cemetery with arrangements by Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Pallbearers were Gary Sartain, Jeff Sartain, Greg Sartain, Keith Sartain, Josh Sartain and Jessie Kemp.
Hororary pallbearers were Troyce May, George Kemp and Hugh O. Oldham III.

Obituary of John Howard Oldham

John Howard Oldham was born May 29, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, the second son of Hilda Rose Black and Hugh Overton Oldham II. He lived in Kansas City where he attended school until in his senior year when he decided to enlist in the United States Army and served two years. Part of that time was spent in Germany. At the end of his enlistment he returned to his family in Kansas City. In October 1968, his sister, Julia, died and shortly after that his parents moved to Arkansas. In the early 70's John moved to Arkansas. Here he met Terry Sartain who became his wife on June 12, 1974. to this marriage a daughter, Julie and a son John Tirey, were born. John took his family to New Mexico where they lived for a time. They returned to Old Joe and his children both finished high school at Norfork. John has always been a creative person, writing lovely poety, making beautiful drawings and carvings. Some of these are displayed here for your obeservation and pleasure. John knew Jesus Christ as Saviour and Redeemer as is reflected in much of his art and poetry.
Preceding John in death were his father, mother and sister, Hugh, Hilda and Julia Oldham.
Survivors include his wife, Terry, of their home; his daughter and son-in-law Julie and Dennis Lawton; his son and daughter-in-law, John T. and Sandi Oldham, all of Old Joe; his granddaughter, Kyra Ashton Nugent of Mt. Home; his brother, Hugh Oldham III of Old Joe; his mother-in-law, Patricia May of Salesville; and his father-in-law , Jack Sartain of the Chicago area; also two aunts, Hazel May and Anna Kemp.
John will be missed greatly by his many friends and realatives. The family wishes to thank all of you for being here and for caring.
