Stayton the son of Alexander Gorden Massey and Ethel Victoria (Hugg) Massey. Mary Zoe the daughter of James (Jim) Cleo Doyle and Virginia (Virgie) Savannah (Penn) Doyle.


Stayton A. Massey, 87, of Strawberry, died Feb. 1, 2003, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

He had worked for the Lawrence County Road Department and the Strawberry School District. He was a member of the Strawberry Church of Christ, where he served as treasurer and as a deacon for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Zoe (Doyle) Massey, in 1997; three brothers; and a grandson, Jeffery Allen Massey.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Massey) Boles and Vannah (Massey) Martin, both of Strawberry; three sons, Jim Massey, Strawberry, Sam Massey, Fort Smith, and Doug Massey, Batesville; two sisters, Marjorie Durham, Strawberry, and Marie Baker, Sherwood; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at 1. p.m. at the Strawberry Church of Christ with Gary Buxton officiating. Burial was in Ward Cemetery at Strawberry under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Lynn.

Pallbearers were James Massey, Rick Cook, Kennie Martin and Brent Massey.

Mrs. Massey Funeral services will be at 2 this afternoon at the Strawberry Church of Christ for Mrs.

Mary Zoe Massey, 81, of Strawberry, who died Friday at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center.

Gary Buxton will officiate the services, which are under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Lynn, and burial will follow in Ward Cemetery in Strawberry.

Pallbearers will be James Massey, Rick Cook, Richard Massey, Stayton Lee Massey, Noel Ray Durham and Brent Massey.

A lifetime Strawberry resident, she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was a Strawberry correspondent for the weekly Walnut Ridge The Times Dispatch newspaper for 48 years.

Surviving are her husband, Stayton Massey of the home; two daughters, Vannah Martin and Linda Massey, both of Strawberry; three sons, Jim Massey of Strawberry, Sam Massey of Springdale and Doug Massey of Batesville; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.
