(Note: The obituary for Roy Lee McGowen indicated that he was a veteran of World War I, but the gravestone shows he was a veteran of World War II. He may have served in both World War I and World War II, or the listing in the obituary may have been in error).

Died Norfork, Baxter County, Arkansas.
Son of James "Jim" & Susan Narcissie "Sissie" McGowan.
Husband of Elsie Mae Parnell McGowen.

(Note: Roy Lee and his children spelled their surname McGowen, but some other members of the family, including apparently his parents, spelled the name McGowan.)

Roy Lee McGowan, aged 61, died Monday evening at his home in Norfork. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2PM in the Galatia Methodist Church with Rev. O.I. ford of Midway officiating. Interment was in the Galatia Cemetery, with Roller Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. McGowan, a farmer, was born at McPhearson in south Baxter County on January 26, 1900. A veteran of World War I, he had lived in this area most of his life and had been a resident of Norfork for the past two years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elsie Mae McGowan of the home; three sons, Charles and Rodney of Norfork, and Cecil McGowan; two daughters, Oleta of Norfork and Mildred; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Acklin of Mt. Home, Mrs. Laura Martin of Calico Rock and Mrs. Cora Cox of Culp and several nieces and nephews.
