Husband of Rita (Fears) McGinnis. Jimmy the son of Burl V and Ozella Bertha (Huskey) McGinnis.



Jimmy Dan McGinnis, 76, of Hoxie, died June 2, 2009, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

A native of Lawrence County, he was a graduate of Lynn High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Arkansas State College. He also attended Air University in Montgomery, Ala., and Dallas College in Dallas.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He also served in the U.S. Air Force, where he received a commendation for inventions pertaining to early warning radar. He served in the Arkansas National Guard under Company K during the Little Rock Central High crisis.

He retired from Texas Instruments in 1975 and from Arkansas Eastman in 1992. He was a member of the Aurora Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason in Walnut Ridge. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burl McGinnis; and a brother, Earl Van McGinnis.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Rita Fears McGinnis; a daughter, Brenda Ruthene Madden, Walnut Ridge; a son, Jason Alan McGinnis, Walnut Ridge; his mother, Ozella Huskey McGinnis, Hot Springs Village; a brother, Larry McGinnis and wife Patricia, Hot Springs Village; three grandchildren, Wesley Madden, Chris Madden and Matthew McGinnis; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral is Thursday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Mark Harris officiating. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery at Strawberry.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Madden, Chris Madden, Matthew McGinnis, Gilbert Pickney, Darrell Pickney and Bill McClure.

Visitation is tonight from 5:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
