A letter was given to NAGS which may shed light on the identity of the soldiers. The letter was addressed to J. W. Swindels, Headquarters 6th Texas Reg't, Camp Evans, Ark., and dated Nov. 26, 1861. The names were:
Sgt. James C. Hardin, Co. A, died Nov. 18, 1861 near Pineville Mo.
Sgt. O. P. Davis and Private Carter Shackelford, Co. B, died Nov. 1861 at Bentonville, Ark.
Private S. M. Fulton, Co. D, died Nov. 12, 1861 at Bentonville, Ark.
Private Ephraim Gray, Co. E, died Nov. 1861 at Cassville, Mo.
Private A. J. Heise, Co. H, died Nov. 16, 1861 at Camp Evans Ark.
First Sgt. James C. Jones, Co. I, died Nov. 24, 1861 at Bentonville, Ark.
Private James C. Gore, Co. I, died Nov. 17, 1861 at Bentonville, Ark.
