It is with great sorrow we are called upon to write in memory of our friend and neighbor, Mrs. Lula L. Mackey, who fell asleep on May 12th, 1917, at her home, two and a half miles north of Centerten, Ark., aged 33 years.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Berry Bates. She was married to W.F. Mackey about 15 years ago, She leaves behind to mourn her departure a husband, two children—Lolita, aged 10, and Earl, aged seven; Robert, the eldest, passed on before—-father, mother, four brothers and four sisters, and a host of friends.

Several years ago she became a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Hiwasse, and lived a faithful and devoted member of that faith.

While her life with us was short, yet her work was for her neighbors and the relief of the sick; and while those who lived nearest will miss her most, yet her memory will remain with all who knew her.

How patiently she bore her afflictions, which were great. Her words were "not to grieve after me." All was done for her by the neighbors and friends that could be done, yet it seems she could remain with us no longer, as she foretold of her last illness, how she would be afflicted, and that she would not get well; how she wanted the business conducted after she was gone. This she told her husband sometime before her last illness, and told him to convey to the many who gave her their kind services and favors in the past, extending over a period of several years, her thanks and appreciation.

She quietly fell asleep with a smile on her face, which leaves evidence to us that she is where there is "peace in Heaven and glory in the highest"-St. Luke 9:38—and where "God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow or crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things have passed away"—Rev. 21:4.

To those left behind, we would ask them to "weep ye not for the dead"—Jer. 22:10. It will only be a short time until you will meet again to part no move.

The remains were laid to rest in the Mount Pleasant cemetery, two miles west of Hiwasse, in the family lot, there to remain until God shall call it forth and fashion it like unto his glorious body. A FRIEND.
