HOWELL, John W. - Died Jan. 17th at his residence two miles east of Bentonville, John W. Howell, in the 59th year of his age. The deceased was born in Monroe Co., Mo. Feb. 24th, 1842. He came with his family to Benton county about 7 years ago and located on the place where he died. He was a temperate, industrious, upright citizen, a good neighbor, a faithful and devoted husband and a kind and affectionate father. His health had been gradually failing for years. For many months he had been confined to his home and mostly to his bed, all the while a great sufferer, yet not a murmurer. He was not a member of any church but professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and died peacefully and resignedly in that faith. He leaves a devoted companion and three children, a noble son and two amiable daughters to mourn their loss. Our whole community joins in kindest sympathy for them and especially for the young man who, in addition to the responsibility of providing for his mother and sisters, is also struggling to qualify himself for the office of the gospel ministry.
