Newton L. Mason, prosperous and highly respected citizen of McPhail valley, died Sunday, April 2, 1922 at his home following several months of illness, the result of paralytic stroke. Mr. Mason was born in Jackson county, Mo. June 17, 1838 and was nearing his 85th birthday. Mr. Mason's companion died some years ago and he leaves 2 children: a son, James B. Mason, and a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Hunt of Gravette, our well known educator who has figured in the life and success of our school over 20 years. Others attending the funeral were Mr. Mason's nephews, Jesse E. Mason, Kansas City, Mo.; Dan Mason, Jarbulo, Kan. and a brother, D.B. Mason of Leavenworth, Kan. Eld. R.M. Phillips conducted the funeral Tuesday afternoon and the body was laid to rest in Maysville cemetery. Sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved ones.

MASON, Mrs. N.L. - {from The Gravett News} We indeed regret to chronicle the death of Mrs. N.L. Mason of McPhail Valley, mother of our superintendent of school, Mrs. Myrtle Hunt, which occurred last Friday night, Nov. 18, 1910 at the country home west of Gravette. Mrs. Mason had only been sick a few days with typhoid fever when death claimed her. Mrs. Mason was aged 66 years and had lived several years in McPhail Valley, coming here with the family from Kansas City. The remains were interred in the cemetery at Maysville.

Mrs. Elizabeth Haun, aged about 70 years, died Tuesday night, Dec. 6, 1910 at the home of N.L. Mason in McPhail Valley after a prolonged illness. The deceased was a sister of Mrs. Mason, who died a few weeks previous, and an aunt of Mrs. Myrtle Hunt, superintendent of our schools, and had made her home with the Masons for years. The funeral occurred Wednesday and burial took place at Maysville. Many friends of the bereaved will join us in expressions of sympathy.
