The oldest citizen of Gravette community passed away Tuesday morning, April 10, 1921, when Theodore Harper departed this life at the home of his son, Thomas Harper, west of Gravette. Mr. Harper was born in Indiana in 1830 and was of that sturdy type of citizen who paved the way to western developments and reached the age of about 91 years. Mr. Harper and family have resided in the Batie Prairie section for 37 years. Mrs. Harper died in 1913 and one daughter preceded him to the great beyond. The remaining members of the family are Will Harper, Mt. Hope, Kan.; Mrs. N.O. Baldwin, Siloam Springs; Fred Harper, Mt. Hope, Kan. and Tom Harper of this place. Mr. Harper has been a prosperous farmer, has evinced much interest in the development of mineral and oil, which even in his last years he has insisted exists in this section, and he has been a student of world affairs, well posted at all times. The funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon at the home, Eld. R.M. Phillips officiating. Mr. Harper had been a member of the Christian church since he was 16 years old. The burial was at Tinnin cemetery, near Maysville. Condolence is extended the bereaved relatives.
