In the death of Mrs. Nancy Jane Seamster, wife of M.L. Seamster, which occurred at 2:30 o'clock Saturday morning, October 8th, 1927 at their home near Centerton at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 20 days. Benton County lost one of its best loved women and most highly respected pioneer residents. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Cole, Nancy Jane Cole was born in Barry County, Mo. October 18th, 1852. Her father, a Southwestern Missouri pioneer, was also a resident of Arkansas and of this county for some time prior to his death in 1894. At the age of 18 she was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist Church of which she continued to the end a faithful and consistent member, the influence of her Christian character affecting not only her own family and neighbors but a wide circle of friends and acquaintances throughout her long life. On March 2nd, 1871 she was married in Barry County, Mo. to M.L. Seamster, a native of North Missouri. Fifty years of their happy married life of nearly 57 years were lived in Benton County, Ark., where they reared a family of ten children. The first of their children to die was Walter in 1897 at the age of 21. In 1925 they lost another son, Robert, aged 43. Besides her husband, now 83 years of age, Mrs. Seamster is survived by seven sons and one daughter: John W. of Fayetteville, Ark.; Marion of Miami, Okla.; Mrs. A. M. Crouse, Roy and Bert of Bentonville; Lee of Fayetteville and Alvin and Jesse of Bentonville. She also leaves five brothers: James H. Cole of Arlington, Wash.; Joe of Egger, Ark.; Jasper N. of Muldrow, Okla.; John C. of Colorado Springs and Bob of California; also a number of grandchildren and many other relatives. Although far advanced in years both Mr. and Mrs. Seamster have always been unusually active and her sudden going was a severe shock to her friends throughout this section as well as to her own family to whom it was wholly unexpected, her last illness lasting only a few minutes. The funeral services, attended by hundreds of friends, were conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Mount Pleasant church by the Rev. T.F. Jones who has been pastor of the Bethlehem Church, where she had her membership for a number of years. Interment was made in the family plot in the Mount Pleasant cemetery. Her kindly life-long interest in the people of Benton County, whether known to her personally or not, was evidenced in so many ways and among the many newspaper clippings relative to Benton County people and events which she had carefully saved throughout the years were all the obituaries appearing in the Benton County Democrat over a period of 35 years.
