John Steward Melson, 74, of Pocahontas, died Monday at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. He was retired from the Air Force, having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Juanita Melson of the home; two sons, Norman Melson of Hawaii and Randy Allen of Pocahontas; seven daughters, JoAnna Chilcoat and Ruby Pence both of Madera, Calif., Karen Hall and Kathy Turner both of Pocahontas, Tammie Bradley of Sacramento, Calif., Kathy Rumins of Merced, Calif., and Cindy Gennough of O’Fallon Ill.; three brothers, Dick Melson of Sylvia, Mo., Andy Melson of Fairdealing, Mo., and Bud Melson of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Betty Nudham of Doniphan, Mo., and Marty Amann of Phlin, Calif.; 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be this afternoon at 2 in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas with Ralph Bird officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 8:30 until time of services today at the funeral home.
