H L MCALISTER

Hoskins Cemetery
Pope County,
Arkansas

Shot to Death on January 22, 1919

He owned a store in Appleton, (Near Hector) he borrowed a horse to go visit a John Mackey in the Gaglesville Community and collect on an outstanding bill. ...... when the horse returned home without a rider, the owner of the horse knew something had happened. Went looking for him (In the dark with a lantern) and found his Body near John Mackey's house. Meanwhile, Mackey runs on foot all the way to Atkins to the sheriff. Says Harmon tried to kill him and he shot back in self defense.... but all I have is the first report of this in the Atkins Chronical newspaper, ... in short Harmond was murdered... as there is more to the article....

The family refers to him as Harmond, his name was Hiram. Hiram L McAlister was my Great Grandfather (Meredith) Crawford McAlister's, Grandson from his first wife.
