James Banks, Banker of Gravette, Dies Suddenly at Home
Gravette, Ark., Jan. 12 -- James Banks, 66 years old, prominent banker of Northwest Arkansas died suddenly at his home in Gravette, Saturday.
He began his banking career at Carl Junction, Mo., 39—years ago, coming to Gravette two years later and organizing the First National bank, where he has since served as cashier. He also organized the bank of Hiwasse. He was associated with his sons, J.D. and Conley in the mercantile business in Hiwasse and in extensive farming interest in the county.
The Bank of Hiwasse was liquidated a few years ago without loss to depositors.
Furieral service will be conducted at Pyeatte's chapel in Gravette Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Rev. Mr. York of Bentonville and Rev. Mr. Davidson of Rogers, Christian ministers, will officate. Mr, Banks had been a member of the Christian church for 35 Years.
