Killed In Action
PFC Sammy Gray Evans, aged 20 of Hampton Route 1 (Faustin Community) was killed in action near DaNang in Vietnam on Friday April 21, 1967. He had been overseas since December of 1966. PFC Evans entered the United States Marine Corp July 12, 1966. He was with the 1st Marine Regiment, F. Co., 3rd Platoon. He was a graduate of Hampton High school, a member of the Assembly of God Church, and worked for the Georgia-Pacific Company at Crossett before entering service. He was married to the former Sheila Raney of Fordyce. Besides his wife he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Evans of Rt. 1, Hampton; one brother, Randall Ray Evans; and two sisters, Miss Virginia Kay Evans, and Miss Edith Ann Evans all of the home. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakeside Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Lakeside cemetery by Proctor Funeral Home. (Camden News - May 1, 1967)
