MITCHELL, John A. - (from The Southwest City Republic) John A. Mitchell, one of the old time settlers of this country, aged 72 years, died at the home of his son, Lee Mitchell, east of town, Tuesday, Jan. 25, 1921 and was buried at Lee cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist chapel, near Lee, a large number of friends from this city attending the funeral. To the relatives and friends the Republic extends sympathy. ***** Friend Mitchell was in Gravette only a short time ago in his usual jovial spirits and the News Herald was not advised of his illness. Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved ones. John A. Mitchell was born at Blairsville, Ga. March 19, 1849 and was aged 71 years, 10 months and 6 days at death. He came to this country at an early age and has spent most of his life on the farm. At the age of 18 he was married to Miss Margaret Morton. To this union were born 10 children, 6 boys and 4 girls, 5 of whom survive: R.J. Mitchell, D.L. Mitchell and Mrs. Mary Baty of Beaty vicinity; Mrs. Myrtle Moore of Shamrock, Okla. and Mrs. Lizzie Gaston of Joplin, Missouri. Mrs. Mitchell died twenty years ago. Mr. Mitchell had been a member of the Methodist church since the age of 20, was a christian worker and a man esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Shipley.
