David L. Kost was born at Mt. Vernon, Ohio February 18, 1835. He passed away at Gentry, Ark. July 25, 1925. He was 90 years, 5 months and 7 days old. Mr. Kost taught school when 17 years old and graduated from the law college at Oberlin, Ohio when he was 21. He served in the Civil war as secretary to the general of the 65th Ohio, Company H, was in several battles where he contracted an abscess caused by extreme exposure, and was discharged after 11 months service. He was 1st commander of Harker Post 104. Mr. Kost went to Gallatin, Mo. in 1864 and started the newspaper, "The North Missourian," and practiced law. He was sent to the state legislature once, the state senate twice. He came to Gentry in 1894 and spent 9 years on a farm near town. Besides taking care of the duties on the farm he was the editor of Gentry's second newspaper. He moved to town in 1912 where he spent the last 12 years of his life. He was converted in early life and lived a consistent Christian until the end came. He was one of the charter members of the Congregational church, had also been superintendent of the Sunday school for 8 years. He was always present at the regular services until the last few years when ill health prevented his going. His wife preceded him in death only a few months ago. They have both left us for a higher realm while their bodies sleep side by side in our beautiful cemetery. He is survived by four children: Paul and Victor of Chicago, Byrdie of Cleveland, and Nona May of Gentry. Nona May has been his faithful aid and companion all these years and we are sure there will be a starry crown awaiting her on high. Funeral services were conducted at the church at 3 p.m. by the pastor. Interment was made in the Gentry cemetery by Pyeatt Undertakers. Contributed.

KOST, Laura S. HALE - Laura S. Hale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hale, was born in Michigan Nov. 18, 1842 and died October 26, 1924. She was married to David L. Kost in 1879. She was converted in early life and lived a consistent Christian until the end came. Mrs. Kost had been confined to her room for almost eight years. Sitting there in her wheel chair, day after day, she was a patient sufferer, never complaining, ever thoughtful of those caring for her. She is survived by her husband and four children, also two sisters and one brother. A short service was held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 after which the body was taken to the Congregational church where deceased had long held her membership. Her funeral services were held by the pastor. While the sun was slowly going down the western horizon the body was laid to rest, surrounded by relatives and friends.
