Husband of Mrs. Alice Brooks Langford Surridge (marr. 05 May 1896); son of Wilson Frank Medearis, Jr. and Margaret Munger Medearis
James served as Mayor of Walnut Ridge at intervals over a period of 18 years. During his terms of office, most of the water and sewer improvements were made, as well as paved streets. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the Walnut Ridge School Board, chairman of the Lawrence County Board of Education, chairman of the Lawrence County chapter of the American Red Cross, and president of the Jonesboro Chapter, Veterans of the Spanish American War.
