RAGSDALE, John Baxter - John Baxter Ragsdale died Friday, February 1st at Batesville, Ark. at the home of a nephew. The body was brought home for burial and funeral services were had here Sunday at the Church of Christ, corner of Chestnut and Second streets, at 2:30 o'clock, being conducted by his pastor, T. Park Burt. Interment was in the Oakley Chapel cemetery. Mr. Ragsdale, who traveled for the Ozark Candy Company of Joplin, left Rogers some three weeks ago for his first trip of the new year. He was taken ill while at Calico Rock and went to the home of a nephew at Batesville. When it was realized that his condition was serious the family here was notified and Mrs. Ragsdale and youngest son, Albert, left at once for his bedside. Later they were joined by all the children save the youngest daughter and they were with him when he died Friday, February 1st. John Baxter Ragsdale was born February 12, 1868 in Blount county, Tenn., being 55 years, eleven months and 19 days old at the time of his death. On March 11, 1888 he was united in matrimony with Miss Martha Jane Arnold and to this union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters. The family came to Missouri twenty-three years ago and have owned a farm west of town since then. Mr. Ragsdale is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters, as follows: William B. Ragsdale of Morrillton; J. Arthur Ragsdale of Southwest City, Mo.; Chas. E. and Albert F. Ragsdale, Mrs. W.S. Thompson and Mrs. Herbert Hawkins, all of Rogers. On the first Lord's day in September 1923 Bro. Ragsdale "Obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine being then made free from sin, he became the servant of righteousness." Bro. Ragsdale was a great friend of mankind and while his life as a Christian was of only a few months duration yet his entire life as a husband, father and citizen is said to have been clean.
