WALKER, Claude W. - W.A. Walker of Rogers has received word from the War Department in Washington that the body of his son, Claude W. Walker, will be brought home shortly for burial. The body will be laid to rest by the side of his mother in Oakley Chapel cemetery. Claude W. Walker enlisted in Oklahoma City and after five months training was ordered to England. He was on the ill-fated Tuscania which was struck by a German torpedo off the coast of Scotland two years ago in February. One hundred and twenty bodies of American soldiers were recovered and buried near Shalot on the Scottish coast. Walker was about thirty-one years of age and was graded 100 per cent in the physical examination and the same per cent in rifle and pistol practice. When he left Camp Merritt on the Tuscania he was on a secret mission and given an ivory handled revolver and bowie knife. What that mission was no one knows out side of a few in the War Department.

Will A. Walker received word the first of the week that the body of his son, Claude Walker, was being forwarded to Rogers that day and it should reach here today or tomorrow. Young Walker, who lost his life when the Tuscania was torpedoed by the Germans off the coast of Scotland, will be the first Rogers boy to be brought home from overseas for burial. He was first buried on the coast of Scotland. Arrangements have been made to give Walker a military funeral and it will be held under the arrangements of Wm. M. Batjer Post No. 100, American Legion Sunday afternoon at three o'clock. If the weather permits the funeral will be held on the Campus Park; if not, in the Presbyterian church. Burial will be in the Oakley Chapel cemetery.

The body of Private Claude W. Walker of Rogers arrived from over seas last Friday and a military funeral was given to this Benton county boy who lost his life on the ill fated Tuscania that was sunk by a German submarine off the Scottish coast in the spring of 1917. Funeral services were held on the campus of the old Rogers Academy and over 1800 people gathered to pay their last respects. The services were in charge of the Batjer Post of the American legion and Rev. Tom McSpadden, assisted by ex-chaplain H.C. Hoy of Bentonville, conducted the religious services, after which the body was taken to the Oakley Chapel cemetery for interment. The firing squad of the Batjer Post fired a salute of three volleys and taps were sounded as the dead soldier was lowered to his last resting place. Post Commander Dave Peel, Adjutant Roy Dixon, Dr. K.B. Huffman, representing the Mountain Post of the American Legion of Bentonville, attended the funeral. With the Bentonville boys, as a delegate, was Private Holcombe of the Third Division, who has been on furlough at Bentonville.
