VICKREY, Mattie STALLCUP - Funeral services for Mrs. Walter Vickrey, who was killed Wednesday afternoon, June 12th in an auto accident near Wetumka, Okla., were held at the Christian Church in Cave Springs Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Foster conducting the services. The funeral was one of the largest ever held at that place, the crowd being estimated from 800 to 1,000 people. Burial was made in the Hart cemetery. Mrs. Mattie Vickrey was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Stallcup of the Colville township and was 45 years of age. She was born and raised in the Colville community. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Scott and Mr. Vickrey, other victims of the automobile accident, were cut and bruised somewhat but were able to return home and attend the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Billie Scott of Ontario, Calif., to whom the party were on their way to visit, were present at the funeral. Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Vickrey were sisters. The Vickrey, Scott and Stallcup families are all prominent families and are widely known. It is reported that Mrs. Vickrey, just before leaving on the trip to California took out an accident policy. She was killed six hours later. Mrs. Vickrey was killed when the car in which she was riding with her husband, Walter Vickrey and Mrs. Vickrey's nephew, Kenneth Scott and Mrs. Scott, had reached the foot of a steep hill near Wetumka, Okla. and their car was suddenly struck from behind by a big oil truck driven by W.H. Sims of Seminole, Okla. The Vickrey car was knocked down a 50 foot embankment and turned over twice. The door on the side Mrs. Vickrey was riding came open causing her to fall out and was pinned under the car. Her head was badly crushed and she died almost instantly. Sims, the driver of the truck, claimed his brakes would not work. He is in a hospital at Holdenville where his injuries are being treated. He was badly bruised and had three ribs broken. Oklahoma officers have since arrested Sims on a charge of man-slaughter. Mrs. Vickrey is survived by her husband, Walter Vickrey, her parents, Mr.and Mrs. W.T. Stallcup, a sister, Mrs. Wm. Scott, Ontario, Calif. and a brother, P.T. Stallcup, also of Ontario.
