VICKREY, J.T. {Tom} - J.T. {Tom} Vickrey, prominent stockman, farmer and merchant in Benton County for over 40 years, died suddenly at his home on the Osage south of Bentonville last Thursday following a stroke of paralysis. Funeral services were held at Cave Springs Friday afternoon, Elder E.M. Borden conducting the services. Burial was made in the Hart cemetery. Uncle Tom Vickrey, as most people call him, had the care and responsibility of looking after his mother and seven children following the death of his father when Tom was 12 years old. Some 40 years ago he ran a livery stable and drug store in Maysville, then a flourishing town. In 1908 he and his son purchased the J.T. Keller hardware store in Rogers. After selling the business he purchased a meat market and grocery in Bentonville which he later disposed of. Town life and business were not of Tom's liking so he retired to his farm and began buying mules again. For over 35 years he bought mules all over Northwest Arkansas. He was a man of his word and until death came he was always busy trading. He was an equally good farmer and owned one of the best farms in the county. A short time ago he told the editor of this paper he still had 2,000 bushels of corn on hand. Besides his widow he is survived by a son, Walter, one daughter, Mrs. Pearl Sumner, a grandchild, Dorothy Sumner, and a sister, Mrs. Josie Collier of Clarksville, also by several nieces and nephews.
